Core compression workflows
- Compress imageReduce file size with a quality slider, dimension cap and format conversion. Live preview before you download.
- Compress to exact KBIterative binary-search compressor — guaranteed to land under any KB target. Use when the byte cap is a hard requirement.
- Bulk compressCompress dozens of images at once. Drop multiple files, pick a preset, download as a single ZIP.
- Website image optimiserDrop a folder of images — per-file recommendations (format, dimensions, estimated saving), batch run.
Common exact-size targets
Need to land under a specific size? Pick a target and get there in one upload. All of these use the same iterative engine as compress to exact KB.
- Compress to 50 KBHard cap at 50 KB — for ultra-strict form uploads (Indian government exams, tiny profile photos).
- Compress to 100 KBUnder 100 KB — the reliable web ceiling for above-fold hero images passing Core Web Vitals.
- Compress to 200 KBUnder 200 KB — the safe upper bound for retina hero images on marketing sites.
- Compress to 500 KBUnder 500 KB — comfortable for editorial and blog inline images without visible quality loss.
- Compress to 1 MBUnder 1 MB — high-quality photography sizing, works for most email attachments too.
- Compress to 2 MBUnder 2 MB — the safest attachment size for corporate email and unknown recipient policies.
Need more than compression?
Open the image workspace if you need to compress and resize, convert, strip metadata, or chain several operations on a single upload. One image, every operation, nothing uploaded.
Supported formats and how processing works
- Files you can open
- JPG, PNG and WebP, up to 25 MB each. iPhone HEIC/HEIF photos open only in the HEIC to JPG converter. PDFs open in the PDF to image tool.
- Files you can save
- JPG, PNG and WebP. WebP and AVIF output depend on your browser's encoder (in our tests, Chrome could not create AVIF). If your browser can't produce the format you picked, the tool tells you instead of saving a different format under the wrong file extension.
- Where the work happens
- In your browser, using its built-in canvas image encoder. The tools contain no upload step, so your image is not sent to our server. Our analytics (Google Analytics with Consent Mode) records usage numbers such as file size and format, never the image itself.
- What changes in the file
- The image is re-encoded, so camera metadata (EXIF, including GPS) is not carried over. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas become white. PNG is lossless: to shrink one, reduce its dimensions or convert it to WebP.
