Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 May 2026
Overview
This privacy policy explains what information Image Compressor ("we", "us") collects when you visit this website, how it is used, and the rights available to you under UK GDPR and EU GDPR. By using the site, you agree to the practices described below.
The images you upload
The image compression tool runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. The images you select are processed locally on your device and are never uploaded to our servers. We do not see, store, copy, or transmit your image data. When you close or refresh the page, the image is removed from the page's memory. This is true regardless of your cookie choices.
Information we collect
When you visit the site, our hosting provider and analytics partners may receive standard technical information that any website receives by default, including:
- Your IP address (truncated where possible)
- Your browser type and version
- Your operating system
- The pages you visit and how you navigate between them
- The referring website that sent you to us, if any
This data is used in aggregate to understand usage patterns and improve the site. It does not identify you personally and is not combined with other identifiers.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar browser storage technologies for two purposes:
- Strictly necessary cookies — required for the site to function (for example, to remember your cookie consent choice). These are always active and do not require consent.
- Analytics and advertising cookies — set by third-party services (see below) to measure traffic and serve advertising. These are only active if you accept them via the cookie banner.
You can change your cookie choice at any time by clearing the site's storage in your browser, which will cause the cookie banner to reappear on your next visit.
Third-party services
We use the following third-party services that may set cookies or process your data:
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site. Google Analytics may set cookies on your device to recognise repeat visits and aggregate behaviour. Data is anonymised where supported, and IP addresses are truncated. Google's privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.
Google AdSense
We use Google AdSense to display advertising on this site. Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
Users may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. Alternatively, users can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.
Google Consent Mode v2
We implement Google Consent Mode v2. Until you accept advertising and analytics cookies, Google scripts run in "denied" mode and only collect modeled, non-personalised signals. When you accept, full measurement and personalised advertising are enabled.
Legal basis for processing
For visitors in the UK, EU or EEA, our legal basis under UK GDPR and EU GDPR is your consent (Article 6(1)(a)) for non-essential cookies, and our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)) in operating, securing and improving the website.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR and EU GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Object to processing or request restriction
- Withdraw your consent at any time
- Lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) or your local data protection authority
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at jamie.pow@live.co.uk.
Data retention
Aggregate analytics data is retained for up to 14 months and then automatically deleted, in line with Google Analytics default retention policy. Cookies set by analytics and advertising partners have their own expiry periods, typically ranging from a single session to 24 months.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA), and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent change. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
